Just starting out in product? I recommend these two books.

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve had a chance to chat with many people starting, transitioning, or trying to break-into product roles (thank you all for reaching out!).

A common question I heard was: “Can you recommend any books for someone starting out?”

There is a lot of content out there, but for me, these two books stand out as essential reading for those trying to get a good understanding of Product Management.

Inspired: How to Create Tech Products Customers Love by Marty Cagan

Why I recommend: It’s an in-depth look at product management, product organizations, product culture, and the product manager role. For me, it filled in a lot of gaps in my understanding of Product Management at Startups, Growth Stage, and Enterprise Companies.

Agile Product Management with Scrum: Creating Products that Customers Love by Roman Pichler

Why I recommend: It’s a thorough look at product management and product ownership using Scrum. It’s deep and tactical and does a great job explaining the Product Owner’s day-to-day responsibilities and even has a chapter dedicated to transitioning into the role.
